Building by sequence,
empowering growth

Chris Plummer didn’t start out as a strategist. He started out as a founder who made every mistake a first-time founder makes — moving fast without systems,
confusing activity with progress, and raising money before the business was actually ready to absorb it.

Those early years — building, breaking, rebuilding — became the foundation of everything he and his team now helps other founders avoid. Chris realised that most businesses don’t fail because of a bad idea or a weak market. They fail because the infrastructure to scale was never built. No systems. No clarity on capital requirements. No separation between the founder and the business itself.

That insight became Baylor Ventures — a Perth-based venture building firm focused on strategic joint venture partnerships within the property and finance sectors.

Working hands-on, Baylor Ventures helps structure businesses that are scalable, investable, and built to outlast the person who started them.

Over 15+ years Chris has built, backed, and operated ventures across multiple industries. He developed the Venture Engine framework, written two business books on execution and decision-making and hosts The Venture Builder Podcast — sharing what actually happens inside ventures that grow.

He is based in Perth, Western Australia, and via strategic joint venture partnerships (only), his team works with a select and limited group of founders and operators at any given time across APAC.

How we think about building

These are not mantras on a wall. They are the principles that drive every decision made inside a Baylor Ventures engagement.

ONE

Structure before speed

Moving fast without the right foundations does not create momentum — it creates chaos that compounds. Every venture we touch gets the structure right before we push the accelerator.

TWO

Operators, not advisors

The difference between advice and execution is accountability. The Baylor Ventures team operate inside businesses — not as observers giving recommendations from a distance. Our performance metrics are driven by our own commercial interest, due to the joint venture structure of our engagements.

THREE

Capital follows structure

Founders who struggle to raise are rarely pitching the wrong investors. They have the wrong business structure. Investors don’t fund ideas — they fund predictable machines.

FOUR

Measure what matters

Most businesses measure what is easy, not what is important. Build the measurement infrastructure before you need it — the leading indicators rarely show up in a standard dashboard.

FIVE

Businesses should outlast founders

A business that depends entirely on its founder is not a business — it is a job. The goal is to build something that can operate, scale, and attract capital independently.

SIX

Deliberate decisions beat fast ones

Urgency is the enemy of good judgment. The best decisions come from a structured process, not a reactive one. Slow down to get the decision right and you never have to undo it.

The Venture Engine

Developed over 15+ years of hands-on building, The Venture Engine is the operating system applied inside every Baylor Ventures joint venture engagement — replacing guesswork with structure, urgency with execution and potential with performance.

Foundation Audit

A structured assessment across eight dimensions — identifying exactly what is holding the business back from scale and capital-readiness.

Structure Design

Building the operational and financial architecture needed to scale — systems, reporting, team structure, and capital pathways designed for the venture's trajectory.

Execution Engine

Installing the cadence, accountability, and measurement infrastructure that converts strategy into deliberate, trackable progress — not just activity.

Capital Positioning

Structuring the business to attract the right capital, at the right time, on the right terms — based on what investors actually evaluate, not what founders assume.

Scale & Exit Infrastructure

Building the operational independence and value documentation that makes a business scalable beyond its founder — and attractive to acquirers and institutional partners.
